Ah yes, the Jet Pack Halloween Costume – or as we like to call it, “NASA’s latest budget cut”. After wearing this, you’ll be able to moonwalk better than Michael Jackson, but only if he was doing it while being chased by a horde of rabid squirrels. You can make your own costume as kids featured here, or you can get one on Amazon, if you don’t feel like getting all crafty.
The jetpack feature is where the magic happens – or doesn’t, depending on your perspective. It’s less “rocket to the moon” and more “inflatable life vest from the Titanic.” The good news is you won’t be flying into the stratosphere anytime soon; the bad news is you’ll probably be walking at the speed of a tortoise stuck in quicksand. If you want to go anywhere fast, we suggest hitching a ride with the next passing spaceship… or skateboarder.
Now, there are a few downsides. It’s important to note that this costume is not astronaut-certified. We know, it’s disappointing. NASA will not return our calls. And while it’s excellent for parties, trick-or-treating, or even just floating awkwardly around your living room, we would not recommend attempting to wear this through airport security. They do not appreciate inflatable jetpacks… and TSA are not exactly known for their sense of humor.
