Amen to all of this!
Wife: “Why do you leave your wallet in your car door?!”
Me: “So I don’t forget it when I need it.”
Wife: “But it could get stolen!”
Me: “Jokes on them. Have you seen our bank statement?”
Many years ago, I was out at a Manhattan restaurant with my wife and came up with a new proverb for our young bohemian lifestyle: “Money is no object in our bank account.”
I didn’t realize at the time just how durable that pithy little epigram would prove over the years.
It’s not about having more money, it’s about setting your expectations correctly.
There is really no need in eating in a restaurant once a week, going out on vacation twice a year or taking a shower every second month.
The first one is so true that it hurts. But growing up in an abusive family I have to say that if people with money would invest more in their own therapy, it could change everything.
All “the money” hasn’t gone away, someone has it. Just not us.
