I, too, was reminded of my childhood McDonald’s experiences and of the Babadook. I get a bit of a Pennywise turning into his spider form vibe as well.
Still, however, I find real life clowns far more terrifying. Pogo the Clown has to be the best/worst example of a real life clown monster.
